I had a few minutes before I had to leave for an appointment so I went out back for a quick walk around the yard. I wasn’t out there too long before I saw something in the gravel where we have a big Porter Weed planted in a raised bed. I walked closer and discovered it was a live bird. A constant source of entertainment are the blue jays in the bird baths. They seem to love the water more than any of our little back yard birds. Yesterday I watched this one leave, fly to the closest tree and with a few moments passing, come back seven times! He just could not get enough splash time.

With all the pollen and debris coming from the Oak Trees in the back yard right now, we usually clean out and fill the bird baths with fresh water almost every day. I had just finished doing that and a Blue Jay flew in right behind me as I was walking away. I was delighted and entertained for the next 20 minutes or so watching one happy bird! ( 13 here )

I was thoroughly entertained watching a Blue Jay in the big blue birdbath this morning. He flew away and came back four different times within about 20 minutes. What a great way to cool off!

We have lots of blue jays here, but they never seem to stay still long enough for me to get a picture. By the time I get my camera up and focused, they're gone. But this time I had my camera up taking pictures of the hanging pots, and he just flew in and landed right in my view. I moved my camera over a few inches and there he was. Thanks ( Read more... )
